Tech for Student Success -- Assistive Technology to Support Learning

http://bit.ly/tfss-fdlrs

This Tech for Student Success wiki for class participants is provided for use as a regularly updated source of information about technology, devices, tools, utilities, software or other items identified as resources to help make life and learning easier for individuals with disabilities. New links and information will be added periodically. If you find items that you feel should be included and shared with others, please email send an email to me at pawlowskir@pcsb.org.

Though a particular resource may be identified as a support to a specific procedure or process, many resources serve multiple functions. For instance, the iPad is a wonderful resource to assist with communication for those on the Autism spectrum, but it also serves as a communication device for those experiencing limitations in communication due to the physical aspects required of speaking, or as a learning support through specific apps for individuals with cognitive disabilities.

Objectives:

This session addresses the following six areas of exceptionality: vision, hearing, physical, communication, intellectual, and cognitive. A background in or knowledge of IDEA and specific aspects of various exceptionalities supports all students and assists staff in establishing a positive inclusive environment.

Through presentation and class engagement, participants will
  • demonstrate understanding of IDEA terminology through identification of resources that support increased academic success for all students.
  • Identify models of support for assisting students with disabilities and/or learning differences, in accessing the general education curricula.
  • access the resources on the FDLRS wikispace site and the FDLRS Gulfcoast website for application in classroom practice.

Involvement in this session will require access to this wiki to download resources for investigation and participation in class discussion.
Some time may be used on-line to peruse identified resources.
Facilitator discourse and video will be the primary means of presentation and supported by participant engagement in class discussion and examination of web links.
